Who We Don’t Work With (And Who Might Be a Perfect Fit)

Two young businesswomen talking near the office building, having a small talk during the coffee break outdoors.

We love working with businesses that align with our values and approach. But we also know that not every client is the right fit—and that’s okay! Being upfront about this helps both of us save time and focus on businesses where we can really make a difference.

In this post, we’ll share some red flags that are definite no-go’s, pink flags where we’re open to a chat, and give you a better idea of the types of businesses we love working with.

Red Flags: Non-Negotiables

These are the things that signal we’re not the right accountants for you.

  1. The “Cash-in-Hand” Enthusiasts
If you’re looking for ways to “keep things off the books” or bend HMRC rules, we’re not your team. We believe in ethical accounting and full compliance—it’s how we protect your business and ours.
  2. You Won’t Change from Your Existing Software
We understand that you’ve invested time, money, and effort into your current accounting software. We work exclusively with Xero and selected apps that integrate with it. Supporting multiple software platforms dilutes our expertise and isn’t beneficial for you or us.

We want to provide the best service possible, and that means mastering one platform rather than dabbling in many. Sticking to Xero ensures we can give you the efficient, expert support you deserve.

  1. The Silent Types
We need regular communication to help you succeed. If you prefer the “out of sight, out of mind” approach when it comes to your finances, we’ll struggle to give you the proactive support we’re known for.
  2. We Don’t Do Audits
We specialise in accounting, tax, and advisory services, but we don’t provide statutory audit services. If your business needs an audit, we recommend finding a firm that specialises in audit work to ensure you receive the highest level of service.
  3. We Don’t Work with Non-Resident Companies
Our expertise is in UK-based businesses, and we don’t provide services to non-resident companies. Focusing on UK businesses allows us to stay on top of local regulations and provide tailored advice.

Pink Flags: Let’s Chat

These aren’t deal-breakers, but they might need a conversation to see if we’re the right fit.

    1. Startups with Unclear Goals
If you’re just starting out and still figuring things out, that’s fine—but we’d love to see some ambition and a growth mindset. If you’re open to guidance, we can help you set a solid foundation.
    2. Businesses Outside Our Local Area
While we love supporting local businesses, we’re open to working with companies across the UK if the fit is right. We use tech like Xero to stay connected, so geography doesn’t have to be a barrier.
    3. Non-Tech-Savvy Businesses
We’re a digital-first firm, and we use cloud accounting tools to streamline your finances. If you’re hesitant about tech but willing to learn, we’re happy to guide you through the process.
    4. Last-Minute Document Dumpers
If you consistently send us a year’s worth of receipts on 30th January, we won’t be able to give your finances the attention they deserve. Timeliness matters to us because it means fewer errors and better advice for you.
  • Sole traders and Partnerships
We are currently not taking on any sole traders or partnerships but would be happy to talk things through with you so we can recommend an accountant that would better suit your needs.

Who We Do Work With

We thrive when partnering with businesses that:

  • Embrace technology: You don’t need to be a tech wizard, but if you’re open to using tools like Xero, we’re here to make it easy.
  • Are growth-minded: Whether you’re scaling up or just looking to improve your processes, we love working with ambitious businesses.
  • Value collaboration: You see us as part of your team, not just a once-a-year box-ticker.
  • Operate ethically: You’re committed to running a transparent, compliant business.

Types of Businesses We Love

  • Consultancies & Professional Services
We understand the unique challenges of service-based businesses and can help you manage cash flow, invoicing, and growth strategies.
  • Creative & Digital Agencies
We love working with innovative, fast-paced teams and can help streamline your financial processes so you can focus on your craft.
  • Health & Wellness Professionals
From chiropractors to personal trainers,  we know how to manage the financial side of running a wellness business.

What If You’re Not Sure?

If you’re reading this and thinking, “I’m not sure if we’d be a fit,” don’t worry! We’re always open to a quick chat to see if we can help. And if we’re not the right accountants for you, we’re happy to recommend another firm that might be a better match. It’s all about finding the right partnership.
